Carole designs and crafts paper textiles, using embroidery and constructional techniques, which have a beauty, depth and quietness.
She combines drawing and stitch on paper, which records and responds to the essence of her chosen environment. The work she produces is quiet but with an inner energy that aims to engage and draw the viewer in, to notice things that may be overlooked.
The work displayed in this residency exhibition represents a year's research of drawings and textiles concerned with Landscape and Journeys, Treaties and Pilgrimages.
Using inks and graphite on soft lightweight papers, calm and mediative pieces will be exhibited reflecting Carole’s love of landscape and gardens. The drawings are pleated and compacted using a hand operated machine which has a series of brass rollers. Threaded needles fold the drawings tightly as the rollers are turned, resulting in new vistas and different images.
