Applying for Funding
Applying for funding will be a requirement for most artists at some point in their professional career.
This quick 1 minute read covers the essentials every artist should consider in order to increase their chances of success.
1 . Do your research
Pick a fund aligned to your niche/need
Check you are eligible
Check the activity you want funded is eligible
Check and understand the funding criteria
Check and understand how much money the funder is offering: Is it sufficient? Does it require match funding?
What documentation do you need to provide to: Support your application? Prove you have undertaken the activity if funded?
2. Read and answer the questions!

Use the language/terminology of the funder when answering their questions
Answer the questions directly and clearly
Do not waffle – every word matters
Stick to the word/character count
3. Ask for support
If the funder offers support take it
4. Create a draft
Draft your answers in a word doc in advance
Ask someone to proof read for you before you submit
Ask someone to spell check for you before you submit
5. Congruency
Ensure your answers are consistent across the document
Ensure your application reads as one application – all parts in synergy
6. Deadlines
Know the deadline
DO NOT leave your application to the last minute! – what if the internet crashes….
