Join us for an afternoon of making art together.
“We hope that participants will walk away from this workshop with a little accomplishment and a great sense of fun and excitement. It is our intention to demonstrate that art is not something for a chosen few but instead something that we can all be a part of, as humans."
Tessa and Markus are two artists who do quite different kinds of work, using different processes from each other. They are also a married couple.
Tessa has always been fascinated by the Face. She finds people most intriguing, and her main focus is portraits in oils, while also looking into different ways of expressing what is behind peoples’ eyes.
Markus comes from a more conceptual, sculptural background and has now come to explore the possibilities of a unique process of carving plywood followed by painting and sanding.
These two have also found a way of collaborating in a series of works they call tema-icons.
Their work can presently be seen at Bannatyne Hotel and Spa in an exhibition called Who We Are Now curated by Pure.
As part of their residency and exhibition, which will be open to the public throughout the month of August, Tessa and Markus will be sharing some of their skills and processes in this workshop
Markus is planning to introduce you to a process of ‘sculpting in reverse’ where he will show you how to make a negative form which is then filled in to produce a positive. The process is basically simple and the outcomes will be full of fun and surprises.
Tessa will be sharing some of her insights into observing and drawing faces.
You will then be invited to do some of your own collaborations with fellow participants of the workshop.
