Pure interviews Art Curator Gita Joshi of The Curators Salon…

What is your earliest memory associated with art?
We had a Constable reproduction on the wall at home when I was growing up - Can't say it had a significant impact on me but I remember it being there... Taking Art history at A level however was quite a significant influence and it was at this point I realised I loved the subject. Interpreting visuals and appreciating a wide diversity of art styles and genre.

What was the last piece of art you purchased?
Validation Lauren Phillips (USA)

What was the last exhibition you visited?

Philip Colbert at Saatchi Gallery presented by Unit London. You can book online and take a robot tour of this exhibition.

Which period in art history do you most gravitate towards and why?

This is a really interesting time to be working with practising artists, so right now contemporary is my vibe but Maholly Nagy has always been an influence and his aesthetic has definitely influenced my new 'artist affirmation cards' design.

When we can travel again, what international art destination do you most want to visit?
Art Miami and Venice BiennaleArt Basel

What work of art would you most like to own?
Picassos Apples and Pitcher. Owning a (white relief) by Ben Nicholson OM would also be amazing.

What advice would you give to those aspiring to make a living out of selling their art?

Show up for yourself and be authentic. Find your audience and be your own best advocate.

Learn about how to do it - read, watch and listen. There is loads of valuable and quality free and paid content out there to help you - use it. Trust and self-belief are critical. If you don't believe in you no one else will! Success is not all marketing strategy - It comes from within.

Tea or coffee?

Tea

What is the most important thing to know about you?
I'm all about empowering the artist and helping them to create sustainable careers. I'm very driven and I'm really interested in human behaviour and how we tick, so I can better help people get in alignment with themselves and unlock their unique, individual potential.

Please tell us one unexpected thing about yourself.

I used to fly Hawks! Until bird flu landed and that all ended, sadly.
