PAINTING - ABSTRACT
One eye sees, the other feels (Paul Klee)
Rowena’s work combines what she sees with what she feels. Inspiration comes from what is happening in the world, the environment, wellbeing and our emotions. She aims to move the viewer in some way to offer a shared language.
Working in oils, acrylics and mixed media, collage forms an integral part of the process and the torn paper allows Rowena to convey what she sees and feels in the moment.
To make her paintings move was the idea in early 2021 but where would it take her? Rowena started to use animation software to ‘paint’ movement into her oil paintings, adding to the meaning. These animations were saved as mp4 videos to be sold as unique image files displayed on digital screens.
Rowena has also been experimenting with how to frame her work, breaking out of the frames, using shaped frames or sometimes just shaping the boards themselves. In 2022 she created a series of heads and 2023 sees some figures appearing in her work…….
