Painting is the practice of applying paint and pigment or other medium on to a solid surface.

The oldest known paintings are believed to be in Australia and date between 40,000 and 60,000 years old, however, there are examples of ancient cave paintings all over the world, including Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, China and Mexico.
